A Mother + Daughter Beginning

Give-A-Derm was founded by Deborah and Juliana, a mother and daughter who never set out to start a skincare company. They were simply looking for answers. Deborah had always valued clean living, but she never expected that the products she trusted most — the ones marketed as “luxury” — could actually cause a burden to the body over time.

After a chemotherapy cream was prescribed far beyond its intended use, Deborah began experiencing debilitating symptoms of chemical toxicity. Her immune system struggled. Her liver became overloaded, unable to process the chemical burden. In many ways, she became the canary in the coal mine — an early warning that what we put on our skin matters far more than most of us realize. Because, the truth is, we’re all exposed to toxins everyday and each of our bodies respond …just at different levels, in different ways, but always creating a burden over time.

The Moment Everything Changed

Early in her detox journey, Deborah was told something that stopped her in her tracks: The highly respected, luxury-level skincare she was using every day was a major contributor to her body’s overall toxicity. Her liver was performing as though she was consuming alcohol every hour of every day. A shocking confirmation came when she stopped using the products. Her body began to heal.

A simple truth became real in the most profound way:

What goes on your skin, goes in your body.

That revelation changed our lives — and it became the beginning of our mission.

From Healing to Purpose

Juliana became a licensed massage therapist specializing in lymphatic drainage and an advanced practitioner in Neurostructural Integration Technique. In her work, she saw how profoundly the body is affected by what it absorbs and carries every single day. Another realization hit hard. These everyday toxins affecting her mom are actually affecting everyone, just at different levels depending upon an individual’s immune system at that time. However, they definitely contribute to everyone’s overall health. She became the main guard dog for what her family and friends consumed or were exposed to. Her mom’s condition made it fairly easy. What most people considered acceptable compromises in daily life had a dramatic physical effect on her mom. This changed every aspect of their lives. Foods, laundry, cleaning products, environmental exposures, perfumes, hair, and makeup all had to be curated with intense scrutiny.

On their quest to find clean product replacements, the hardest category to crack was skincare. What was clean enough didn’t work, and what worked wasn’t clean enough. They kept asking the same question again and again: Why is it so hard to find skincare that is truly clean… and truly effective?

So they decided to create it.
